Eve and Mary

There is the old question, if you could meet anyone from scripture and talk to them, who would it be. Of course, commonly stated are Moses and Jesus. I, myself, have even said David.
Today, though, as I spent time in prayer, I thought of Mary.
Mother’s guilt and shame are real and can be so heavy, and I wonder what advice would she have for us?
The woman, chosen to be the mother of the Messiah.
The mother who lost track of her son and took days to find him.
The mother who saw her son boldly come into the purpose of his life.
The mother who watched him courageously live out that purpose.
The mother who watched as our worst fear, as believing mothers, was realized. A child dying, separated from G-d.
For we know what happened as he died. G-d looked away. After his death and before his resurrection, as he paid the penalty for us, bearing our sins upon himself, he left the presence of our Father.
That is a mother who could speak truth with love to us. A mother who would understand. A mother who I would love to talk to.
And then there is Eve. The woman who fell.
A woman who knew guilt and shame.
A woman who knew what perfection truly is and what it isn’t.
A woman who faced the consequences of her choices.
A woman whose heart was broken.
A woman who embraced redemption.
This is a woman who could speak the truth in love. A woman who would understand. A woman I would love to talk to.
